The dead body of the former president and the Leader of the Opposition in the 11th Jatiya Sangsad will be brought to his ancestral city Rangpur today.

Rangpur ready to pay last homage to Ershad

The people of Rangpur are waiting in eager anticipation for paying a last tribute to their beloved political leader and Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad.

The dead body of the former president and the Leader of the Opposition in the 11th Jatiya Sangsad will be brought to his ancestral city Rangpur today.

Ershad passes away

A helicopter carrying his body is scheduled to land in Rangpur Cantonment helipad at 11:00 am.

His body will be taken from there to Rangpur Collectorate Eidgah. 

People from all walks of life will pay their last tribute to the man in the coffin and have a look at him for the last time.

PM mourns Ershad’s death

The third namaz-e-janaza of the former military ruler will be held there after the Zohr prayer. 

The funeral prayer will be administered by Muhammad Idris Ali, muhtamim of Rangpur Karimiya Nurul Ulum Madrasa. 

The people of Rangpur are demanding that their favourite leader be buried at his hometown. They have also dug a grave for him at the lichi garden in his residence Palli Nibash.

Ershad, a former military strongman, died on Sunday morning at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka. He was 89.

Ershad: Rise and fall as dictator and rebirth as politician

His first janaza was held at the Army Central Mosque on Sunday.

The second namaz-e-janaza took place at 10:55 am at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) on Monday.

His body was taken to the Jatiya Party's central office at Kakrail where the party leaders and activists paid their last respect to their leader.

Northern leaders vow to bury Ershad in Rangpur

After Asr prayer, another janaza was held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on the same day.

His body will be returned to Dhaka and will be buried at the Military Graveyard in Banani on Tuesday.

Ershad's qulkhwani will be held on Wednesday at Gulshan's Azad mosque.
