Railway Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan said the Dhaka-Cox's Bazar train service will start in 2022, if work continues according to schedule, adding that the government is working towards that goal.

He said the process of compensation for land acquisition for the Cox's Bazar-Dohazari Railway Construction Project is in its final stages.

The minister was speaking as the chief guest at a meeting on land acquisition for the Dohazari-Cox's Bazar dual gauge railway project at the Hilltop Circuit House conference room on Friday afternoon.

"Necessary directions have been provided to complete the transfer of compensation to end any complications," said the minister, adding, "after that, the construction work on the Dohazari-Cox's Bazar railway will proceed with full force to complete it by June 2022."

The minister said with the completion of the project there will be a radical change in the communications and economic fields plus an increase in the number of tourists.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ashraful Afsar chaired the meeting while Dohazari-Cox's Bazar Railway Construction Project Director Mofizur Rahman, Land Acquisition Officer Shamim Hossain and other officials spoke at the occasion.
