Purbachol plot scam: Ex-Rajuk member Khurshid surrenders at court
Mohammad Khurshid Alam, former Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) member (Estate and Land) and one of the accused in three cases over plot allocation corruption involving ousted PM Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and daughter Saima Wazed Putul, has surrendered.
He appeared in person before Judge Md Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka's 5th Special Judge Court today (29 October) at 11:30 am and surrendered through his lawyer. The judge asked his name and told him to stand in the dock.
This is the first surrender in the three cases. Other accused remain absconding. Later testimonies began in the cases.
Witnesses include Jahirul Islam, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, and investigation officers Afnan Jannat Keya and Md Salauddin.
The court had framed charges and ordered the start of trial on 31 July. Arrest warrants were issued against the absconding accused on the same day. In the separate cases, 12 people including Sheikh Hasina, 17 including Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and 18 including Saima Wazed Putul are accused.
Earlier on, 20 July, the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court sent six cases for trial, three each to Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 and Special Judge Court-5.
Other accused include Sheikh Rehana and her daughter Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, Azmina Siddiq Ruponti and her son Radwan Mujib Siddiq Boby, Secretary Shahid Ulla Khandakar, Additional Secretary Kazi Wasi Uddin, Administrative Officer Saiful Islam Sarkar, Senior Assistant Secretary Purabi Goldar, former RAJUK chairman Anisur Rahman Miah, Members Kabir Al Asad, Tanmay Das, and Nurul Islam, former members Mohammad Nasir Uddin and Samsuddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Director Sheikh Shahinul Islam, Deputy Director Hafizur Rahman, Habibur Rahman, former State Minister Sharif Ahmed, and Salauddin, former private secretary to the ex-PM.
The Anti-Corruption Commission filed six cases in January over plot allocation corruption. Sheikh Hasina, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Saima Wazed Putul, Sheikh Rehana, Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, Radwan Mujib Siddiq, Azmina Siddiq, and others were made accused.
