Demonstrators form 10km human chain seeking BNP ticket for Taposh in Brahmanbaria-5
The demonstration, organised under the banner of BNP activists, supporters, and members of the public, was held at several points along the stretch from Aliyabad to Bangra Mor in the upazila.
A human chain stretching over at least 10 kilometres was formed today (9 November), where demonstrators called on the BNP to reconsider its nomination for the Brahmanbaria-5 (Nabinagar) constituency and give it to Kazi Nazmul Hossain Taposh.
For the Brahmanbaria-5 seat, the BNP has nominated Abdul Mannan, president of Nabinagar upazila BNP. Kazi Nazmul Hossain Taposh, the district BNP's secretary for economic affairs, was among several others who had sought the party's nomination.
The demonstration, organised under the banner of BNP activists, supporters, and members of the public, was held at several points along the stretch from Aliyabad to Bangra Mor in the upazila. Thousands of BNP and affiliated organisation members, along with local residents, took part carrying banners and placards.
Speakers at the event included former Nabinagar BNP Vice-President Mainuddin Mainu, Shibpur Union Juba Dal President Abdul Hoque, and district BNP member Hazrat Ali, among others.
They said Kazi Nazmul Hossain Taposh had stood by party leaders and workers during challenging times and was nominated by the party in 2018. The speakers expressed disappointment among grassroots activists over his exclusion this time and urged the BNP's acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, to review the decision.
They warned that unless the nomination is reconsidered, the BNP risks losing the Brahmanbaria-5 seat.
