More than a hundred of students at Dhaka University today staged protest demanding justice for a fellow student, who was raped and tortured in capital's Kurmitola area yesterday.

Dhaka University VC Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman has promised to ensure justice as he went to visit the victim at the One-stop Crisis Centre of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

To protest the incident, DU students staged hunger strike in front of the Raju Memorial Sculpture this morning and called for a collective demonstration via a Facebook page, created specifically to demand justice for the victim.

In the meantime, victim's father has filed a rape case with Cantonment Police Station over the incident.

Upon being asked about the rape confirmation, DMCH Director Brig Gen AKM Nasir Uddin said the hospital's forensic department is looking into the details.

"The girl is mentally traumatised and was diagnosed with some wounds on her body", he told The Business Standard.

"We have decided to form a medical board, consisting doctors from different departments, as she has mentioned several health issues and currently is suffering from respiratory problem", he added.

Earlier on Sunday afternoon, the victim, a second-year student of Dhaka University, was picked up by an unidentified man after she got down from bus in Kurmitola yesterday afternoon and then was taken to a secret place, where she was raped and tortured.

Later, she made it to the Kurmitola General Hospital by herself early today.

She was admitted to the Gynaecology ward of Kurmitola General Hospital at around 1am in the morning and then was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
