Two regional and one global power trying to dominate the region: BNP’s Salahuddin
The BNP leader calls for unity to protect the country’s sovereignty

BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has warned that two regional powers and one global power are attempting to dominate the region, threatening Bangladesh's national interests.
Speaking at a discussion in memory of slain Buet student Abrar Fahad today (7 October), Salahuddin stressed that citizens, regardless of party affiliation, must unite under a common policy to safeguard the country's sovereignty and resist external influence.
The discussion titled "From Expression to Death: Spread and Resistance of Fascism in Educational Institutions", was organised by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student wing of BNP, at Dhaka University's TSC auditorium.
Recalling Abrar Fahad's murder, Salahuddin said, "That incident struck me deeply during my exile. I realised that a significant number of young Bangladeshis are willing to stand up for the country's interests. The fire of patriotism and resistance burns bright within the youth. Social media voices of this generation symbolise a new era and even if lives are taken, the spirit of Abrar will rise again."
He emphasised the need to analyse such incidents in historical and theoretical contexts rather than merely labeling them as regional aggression or hegemony.
"The July Uprising was built on the sacrifices of martyrs like Abrar Fahad. The steps of the mass movement were paved with their blood, from 'Shapla Chattar' to countless acts of courage by students and youth," he said.
Addressing the root of political issues, Salahuddin urged the eradication of "bad culture in politics" by fostering good, ideological, and democratic political practices.
"We cannot defeat fascism with slogans or superficial field politics. To truly eradicate it, we must uproot it from its origins by presenting good politics to the people and practicing a democratic political culture consistently," he said.
He urged Chhatra Dal leaders and activists to continue promoting constructive politics as the means to fight fascism and protect Bangladesh's sovereignty.
