Tarique's homecoming: BNP gets official permission to hold reception ceremony
Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury issued the permission today
The BNP has received official permission to organise a reception ceremony marking the homecoming of its Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, who is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh from London on 25 December.
Confirming the development this evening (21 December), BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan said the party has received written approval from the Dhaka divisional commissioner's office to hold the reception to mark Tarique Rahman's homecoming.
He said Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury issued the permission through a letter addressed to BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at around 8:30pm today.
Shairul said the letter was delivered to the BNP central office in Nayapaltan by Zahid Hossain, a staff member of the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner's office, and was received by BNP central committee member Sattar Patwari.
According to the BNP, Tarique is set to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:45am on 25 December.
Tarique Rahman, the eldest son of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and Chairperson Khaleda Zia, was arrested in 2007 under an army-backed caretaker government and left for the UK in 2008 for medical treatment, marking the beginning of his nearly 18-year exile.
