Tarique Rahman will return and guide us, says Fakhrul at JCD rally
He calls for unity and warns against efforts to create division among people
The people of Bangladesh are waiting for the return of Tarique Rahman to lead the nation forward, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said today (3 August).
"The entire nation is waiting for the return of our leader, Tarique Rahman. We all want him back to lead us, to guide us," he said while speaking at Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal's rally in Shahbagh this afternoon.
The BNP leader also called for unity, warning against efforts to create division among people.
"They [fascist forces] are trying hard to divide us. They are trying to destabilise Bangladesh. But we will never allow fascist Sheikh Hasina to continue doing politics in this country," he said.
"Young people from across the country have gathered here today. It's a day of great joy, but also of deep sorrow," he said, recalling that on this day last year, the Awami League was "killing people across the country."
Mentioning that the people will not bow to anyone, the BNP leader vowed to build a self-reliant Bangladesh.
He stated that Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman have agreed in a meeting that the national elections will be held in February.
"People across the country are eagerly waiting for that election," he said.
Urging the nation to take an oath, Mirza Fakhrul said, "Let us unite to turn this country into the Bangladesh dreamed of by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia. Let us fulfill those dreams and build a truly happy, prosperous, and democratic Bangladesh."
