Tarique Rahman violated electoral code of conduct: Asif Mahmud
He emphasised the need for CCTV cameras at all polling centres to ensure transparency and prevent uncertainty among voters and political parties regarding the fairness of the elections.
NCP Spokesperson Asif Mahmud has alleged that BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman violated electoral code of conduct by running campaign activities outside the permitted hours, using loudspeakers at around 4am.
He made the remarks at an emergency press conference held by NCP leaders last night at the party's office in Banglamotor in the capital.
"When the party chairperson does this, it encourages others to follow suit. There is no visible action from the Election Commission (EC). Its biased behaviour is becoming evident," Asif said.
He also said that the army has been instructed to remain outside polling centres and to enter only with permission from a civil administration magistrate. "However, since 5 August, the army has already been given magistracy powers. We urge the EC to reconsider this provision," he added.
Asif emphasised the need for CCTV cameras at all polling centres to ensure transparency and prevent uncertainty among voters and political parties regarding the fairness of the elections.
He also accused the media of leaning towards one political party. "We have seen the politicisation of the media before, and we have also seen its consequences. All parties must be given equal opportunities for campaigning," he said, adding that a senior official of a media outlet has taken on election duties on behalf of a particular party. "We have witnessed the outcome of such actions in the past."
