Supporters gather at Evercare Hospital following Khaleda Zia's death
BNP leaders, activists and supporters began gathering in front of Evercare Hospital in Dhaka this morning (30 December) after news spread of the death of BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
People from different parts of the capital arrived at the hospital premises throughout the morning, with the number of mourners increasing over time as they came to pay their respects.
A supporter from Sutrapur said, "She used to speak for the people of the country."
Another supporter, who identified himself as a rickshaw puller from Kakrail, said he rushed to the hospital with his rickshaw after learning of her death.
Many of those present were seen breaking down in tears as they mourned Khaleda Zia's death. Some also raised demands for legal action against fugitive former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Teachers from Talemul Sunnat madrasa in Basumati, Dhaka, brought students to the hospital area as part of an initiative by BNP activists.
They began a Khatam-e-Quran (complete recitation of the Quran), in front of the hospital at around 11:30am.
