Some will remain disappointed no matter what: Fakhrul on critics of July Declaration
The reaction follows comments from Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, who, in an immediate response to the declaration, said it failed to meet the nation's expectations
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has responded to criticism of the July Declaration, stating that those who are expressing disappointment are typically always disappointed no matter what.
After Chief Adviser Yunus unveiled the July Declaration on Tuesday, Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, in an immediate response, said it failed to meet the nation's expectations.
"They [Jamaat] may not have issued a formal response yet. Their immediate reaction was one of disappointment. We hope they will adopt a positive perspective and contribute to clearing the path toward national and democratic progress," he said in a press conference at the BNP Chairperson's Office in Gulshan today (6 August), organised to express BNP's official response to the July Declaration and election timeline announcements.
Fakhrul said, "Our aim is to move toward a democratic system through a fair election. We believe that elections are the only path forward. The entire nation feels that an election must be held as soon as possible to overcome the current political crisis and restore democracy."
"All the work Muhammad Yunus has done so far proves that he will not do anything in the future to compromise the integrity of a free and fair election," said the BNP leader.
On Tuesday, Fakhrul said the BNP welcomes this declaration. The party believes that the commitments made by the political parties within this declaration will pave the way for the transformation of Bangladesh into a new democratic nation.
It will create an opportunity to build a truly progressive and prosperous Bangladesh based on equality, human values, and justice, he added.
"The BNP extends its heartfelt gratitude, thanks, and congratulations to all the political parties, students, farmers, workers, and people from all walks of life who have participated in this struggle — those who have been martyred, injured, or left disabled in the process," said the BNP leader.
