Silent ballot revolution defeated 'subservient criminals, extortionists' in Ducsu, Jucsu polls: Jamaat’s Porwar
He also demanded that the elections be held under a proportional representation (PR) system, which, he said, would help realise the aspirations of July Uprising and pave the way to build the Bangladesh of our dreams.

In the aftermath of the July uprising, people want a change in the system of governance, and the proof of that is the recently held elections in Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) and Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (Jucsu), said Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar today (14 September).
"In the past, ruling party-backed student organisations unleashed oppression in the name of 'guestroom' and 'gonoroom' cultures in halls. Their factional feuds led to bloody clashes and even killings on campuses. So, general students have ensured their crushing defeat through silent ballots," he said.
The Jamaat leader made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest in a views-exchange meeting on education quality improvement with students, teachers, and guardians in Dumuria upazila in Khulna.
He recalled the killings of the students such as Soni and Abrar at Buet, Abu Bakar at Dhaka University, and Sharifuzzaman Nomani at Rajshahi University, adding that "hundreds of meritorious students have been killed on campuses since independence."
The people of this country are now conscious and know very well what is good for them and what is harmful, he said, adding, "That is why they are eagerly waiting to end the old system of governance through a ballot-box revolution and to build a welfare-oriented Bangladesh."

Porwar reiterated Jamaat's stance that elections must be held under a revised constitution.
"The constitution, which once empowered a government to become authoritarian, and kill and injure thousands, must be amended minimally in line with the written acknowledgement of the July Charter before polls. Otherwise, elections under the existing constitution will only pave the way for a new autocracy or fascism," he warned.
Porwar also demanded that the elections be held under a proportional representation system, which, he said, would help realise the aspirations of July Uprising and pave the way to build the Bangladesh of our dreams.
He added that the fall of the "power-hungry fascist government" was made possible by student protests demanding quota reform.
"Now, opposition political leaders and general people alike are free to express their views. That's why the people do not want to bring a similar regime to power — people will show a red card to anyone attempting to return to power through such means," the Jamaat leader added.
