Sarjis questions motives behind survey putting NCP at 4.9% support for next govt

Sarjis Alam, chief organiser (north) of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has questioned the credibility and motives of the latest survey that placed his party's support for forming the next government at just 4.9%.
"Where the survey comes from, which institution conducts it, and whether there are any hidden motives behind it—these are all matters to consider," Sarjis told journalists at a press conference organised by NCP's Sylhet district and metropolitan units tonight (24 September).
"I am meeting people directly, and they are giving me hope," he said.
The second round of the People's Election Pulse Survey, conducted by private consulting firm Innovision Consulting with support from Voice for Reform and the Bangladesh Research Analysis and Information Network (BRAIN), was unveiled earlier today at the National Archives auditorium in Agargaon, Dhaka.
According to the survey, 39.1% of respondents favoured the BNP, while 28.1% preferred Jamaat-e-Islami.
The NCP secured 4.9% support, while 18.8% of respondents backed the Awami League, despite its registration having been cancelled.
"The people of Bangladesh would spit even if someone brought Sheikh Hasina's picture. Awami League and its allies cannot contest in a truly democratic election," said Sarjis.
He described his party's ongoing merger discussions with Gono Odhikar Parishad as "positive," adding, "To remain active in elections or in any movement ahead, it is vital for like-minded parties to unite."
He also condemned the egg attack on NCP Member Secretary Akhter Hossen in the United States, saying the incident damaged Bangladesh's image globally.
"I have not seen the government take any action, which exposes its weakness. Those who embarrassed our representative must be brought to justice," he added.
