New constitution will ensure recognition of all ethnic communities: Nahid

A new constitution is needed to ensure constitutional recognition of all ethnic communities in Bangladesh, National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has said.
"Bangladesh is a multi-ethnic country. Various ethnic groups have lived here for generations. A new constitution is crucial to preserve the integrity of all cultures," he said at a street rally held in Bandarban yesterday (19 July) as part of the NCP's ongoing campaign titled 'July March to Rebuild the Nation'.
Nahid also said a new constitution will guarantee qualified leadership and proper representation for the people of the hill tracts, including Bandarban, in both upper and lower houses of parliament.
"Our core objective is to reform the state structure, rebuild the nation, strengthen harmony in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, implement the historic July Charter, and build an inclusive, discrimination-free Bangladesh," said Nahid.
"For this, active participation of the people in hill tracts is essential."
