NCP announces 3-day Eid festival including colorful procession in Dhaka
On Eid day, the main procession will begin at 10am in front of the National Eidgah near the High Court premises.
The National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced a three-day Eid festival, including a colorful Eid procession in the capital on Eid day.
Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, the party's spokesperson and Eid celebration committee member, announced detailed plans for this year at a press conference held in front of the Bangladesh National Museum in the capital's Shahbagh today (10 March).
In a written statement, Asif Mahmud said, "On Eid day, the main procession will begin at 10am in front of the National Eidgah near the High Court premises. After Eid prayers, residents from different neighborhoods of the capital will bring small spontaneous processions and gather there before 10am."
"The colorful procession will pass through Doel Chattar and will conclude at Shahbag intersection. A prize will be awarded to the most spectacular processions," he added.
Asif said that according to tradition, the procession will feature representations of historical characters, placards, elephants, horse carriages, and other festive elements.
He further stated, "A mehedi festival and cultural evening will be held at Rabindra Sarobar on the night before Eid [Chand Raat]. People from all religions and backgrounds will be able to participate in the event. The Chand Raat celebration will feature Eid songs, poetry, and various cultural performances."
"On the day after Eid, a kite festival will be held at Suhrawardy Udyan. Organisers believe that combining Dhaka's historic kite-flying tradition with Eid celebrations will help create a cultural interaction reflecting an inclusive Bangladesh," he added.
A 'Kids Zone' will also be a major part of the Eid procession to attract children and teenagers, he further added.
"To implement the event, an organising committee and several sub-committees have been formed," informed Asif.
