Nahid calls for immediate arrest and trial of army members accused of crimes against humanity
Nahid further said that the NCP does not want any confrontation between the judiciary and the military

National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has urged to immediate arrest and bringing to justice of those army members accused of crimes against humanity, following the issuance of arrest warrants by the International Crimes Tribunal.
"During the past fascist regime, almost all state institutions were used for partisan interests, and the military was no exception. Some officers, particularly those who served in RAB or DGFI, were involved in enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and crossfire incidents. Even during the July Uprising, there were instances of firing on unarmed civilians," according to a post from his verified Facebook account.
He attributed this grim reality to the "long failure of democracy" and the "culture of political control" over state institutions.
"After the mass uprising, we have a historic opportunity to cleanse and rebuild these institutions and ensure an end to political interference. Only then can the foundation of a truly democratic state and institutions be established," he wrote.
"To free the army from stigma, those involved in crimes against humanity must be held accountable," he said, adding, "We hope the military leadership will fully cooperate with the government and the tribunal. This is not a matter of institutional ego or prestige, but one of justice, democracy, and the state itself."
Nahid further said that the NCP does not want any confrontation between the judiciary and the military.
"Anti-state groups are trying to provoke conflict to destabilise the country and serve their own interests. Just as we oppose military interference in politics, we also want a complete end to political influence or intervention in any institution, including the military," he added.
Institutions should be run based on patriotism, honesty, and merit, he said.
Mentioning that since 5 August they (NCP) have been working tirelessly to maintain national stability and unity, Nahid said, while their expectations have not yet been fully met, progress has been made in democratic reforms.
We are advancing towards reform, justice, and elections while maintaining stability, the NCP chief added.
"Our next goal is to achieve justice, combat corruption and criminalisation, and pursue economic reforms," he added.
