Khelafat Majlis welcomes Yunus-Tarique agreement on national election in February

Islamist political party Khelafat Majlis has welcomed Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus's agreement with BNP on a proposal that the next national election can be held in the second week of February next year, if all preparations are complete.
In a statement today (13 June) following a meeting between Yunus and BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman in London, Khelafat Majlis said the agreement would help reduce political unrest and uncertainty in the country.
"His [Yunus] emphasis on making substantial progress on fundamental reforms and judicial matters before February is also highly significant," reads the joint statement issued by Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Abdul Basit Azad and Secretary General Ahmad Abdul Quader.
Earlier, on 6 June, Khelafat Majlis welcomed the chief adviser's electoral roadmap, but stated that due to seasonal and contextual factors, early February would be an ideal time for elections.
The party stressed the need for political consensus, the announcement of a July Charter, and completion of fundamental reforms to ensure a fair electoral environment.
