Jucsu polls: 132 aspirants collect nomination forms on Day 1
Chhatra Dal demands deadline extension

A total of 132 aspirants collected nomination papers on the first day of the Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (Jucsu) election process. The aspirants include 46 for the central union and 86 for the hall unions.
Professor Dr AKM Rashidul Alam, university's proctor and member secretary of the Jucsu Election Commission, confirmed the matter today (August 18).
"A total of 132 candidates collected nomination forms on the first day," he said, adding that one candidate had already submitted their nomination paper today.
Professor Alam warned that any candidate who violates the electoral code of conduct will have their nomination papers cancelled.
"It is the responsibility of the candidates to strictly follow the code of conduct for a fair election," he said.
Regarding any extension of the submission deadline, he added, "Whether the deadline for collecting and submitting nomination papers will be extended or not will be decided in the next meeting of the Jucsu Election Commission."
Meanwhile, Zahid Uddin Mohammad Babor, convener of the university unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, raised objections and demanded an extension to the nomination deadline.
"Only two days have been allotted for collecting and submitting nomination forms, which is very inadequate," he said.
"Many students are facing administrative complications, such as issues with tuition fee payments, library clearance, and issuance of ID cards. Because of these issues, it is not possible for many to prepare the required documents within such a short time," the JCD leader added.
Babor urged the Jucsu EC to consider the students' interests.
"We believe the election commission will consider the matter with due sensitivity and extend the deadline for collecting and submitting nomination forms by at least two more days," he added.
According to the announced schedule, nomination forms can be collected and submitted on today and tomorrow (19 August), while the voting will be held on 11 September.
