Jamaat’s Taher accuses EC of bias, warns against 'imbalanced' election
He also criticised certain advisers without mentioning their name for failing to inform the chief adviser about major issues
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher has accused the Election Commission (EC) of bias and warned that it will not accept an "imbalanced election like in 2008".
Speaking at a press conference at Jamaat's central office in the capital's Moghbazar today (19 January), Taher alleged that the EC is showing partiality towards a particular political party.
"If Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus does not take effective measures, Jamaat would be compelled to take strong action," he said.
The Jamaat leader also criticised certain advisers without mentioning their name for failing to inform the chief adviser about major issues, including violations of electoral code of conduct and the failure to ensure a level playing field.
"Not all relevant information is reaching the chief adviser. If he remains unaware and the country moves towards a flawed election, Jamaat will not accept it," Taher added.
