Jamaat issues show-cause notice to Shahjahan over remarks on controlling administration
The notice says his comments have caused severe damage to the organisation’s image, and it goes against the party’s ideology, discipline and principles of responsible political conduct
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has issued a show-cause notice to its Central Working Committee member Shahjahan Chowdhury for making "contentious comments about the professionalism and neutrality of the administration", which the party says have seriously damaged its reputation.
The notice, signed by Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar, states that Shahjahan Chowdhury violated the party's constitution and discipline by making remarks that undermined the spirit of the state administration.
He has been asked to submit a written explanation within seven days.
According to the notice, while speaking at a conference at the GEC Convention Hall in Chattogram on 22 November, he made objectionable comments about bringing local administrative officials "under the party's control".
His remarks, widely circulated on social media, triggered strong criticism from various administrative levels, diplomatic circles and the general public at home and abroad.
The notice also says his comments have already caused severe damage to the organisation's image, and it goes against the party's ideology, discipline and principles of responsible political conduct.
It further notes that despite repeated warnings and advice, including direct caution from the Jamaat ameer, Shahjahan Chowdhury has continued to make statements that undermine organisational integrity and violate party discipline. Citing an absence of behavioural change, the party has asked why organisational action should not be taken against him.
The notice warns that failure to provide a satisfactory explanation within the stipulated time will lead to further steps in line with the party's constitution and disciplinary rules.
