Jamaat forms new central committee for 2026-28, reappoints Porwar as secy gen
The new committee includes four nayeb-e-ameer and seven assistant secretary generals
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has formed its central committee for the next three years, reappointing Mia Golam Porwar as secretary general.
According to a press statement, the new committee includes four nayeb-e-ameer and seven assistant secretary generals, while the party has also constituted a 59-member central Majlis-e-Shura and an 88-member central working committee.
The committees were formed this morning (20 February) during a virtual meeting of the party's central Majlis-e-Shura following consultations among leaders.
The meeting was presided over by the opposition leader and the party's Ameer Shafiqur Rahman.
During the virtual meeting, the Jamaat ameer, in consultation with the central Majlis-e-Shura, selected the party's central leaders for the 2026-2028 term and administered their oath.
The country has been divided into 14 organisational zones to accelerate party activities, with regional directors appointed for each. The committee's tenure will end in 2028.
The four nayeb-e-ameer are ATM Azharul Islam, Mujibur Rahman, Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher and Maulana ANM Shamsul Islam.
The seven assistant secretary generals are ATM Masum, Rafiqul Islam Khan, Hamidur Rahman Azad, Abdul Halim, Muazzam Hossain Helal, Mohammad Shahjahan and Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair.
Members of the 21-member central executive council are ATM Azharul Islam , Mujibur Rahman, Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Mia Golam Porwar, ATM Masum, Rafiqul Islam Khan, Hamidur Rahman Azad, Abdul Halim, Muazzam Hossain Helal, Mohammad Shahjahan, Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair, Abdur Rab, Saiful Alam Khan Milon, Shahabuddin, Md Izzat Ullah, Matiur Rahman Akanda, Md Mobarak Hossain, Md Nurul Islam Bulbul, Mohammad Selim Uddin, Shafiqul Islam Masud and Rezaul Karim.
According to a statement, the 88-member central working committee includes 21 women members, while the 59-member central Majlis-e-Shura has 17 women members.
A five-member central election commission has also been formed. Its members are Chief Election Commissioner ATM Masum, Commissioners Muazzam Hossain Helal, Abdur Rab, Mobarak Hossain and AFM Abdus Sattar.
Regional directors for the 14 zones are Abdul Halim (Rangpur-Dinajpur), ATM Azharul Islam (Bogura), Rafiqul Islam Khan (Rajshahi), Mobarak Hossain (Kushtia-Jashore), Md Izzat Ullah (Khulna), Muazzam Hossain Helal (Barishal), Shahabuddin (Mymensingh), Mia Golam Porwar (Dhaka Metropolitan), Saiful Alam Khan Milon (Dhaka North), Abdur Rab (Dhaka South), Hamidur Rahman Azad (Faridpur), Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair (Sylhet), ATM Masum (Cumilla-Noakhali) and Mohammad Shahjahan (Chattogram).
