Canadian High Commissioner to Dhaka Ajit Singh today (16 October) met Bangladesh Jamaat‑e‑Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman at his office in Bashundhara, Dhaka.
Canadian High Commission's Political Counsellor Marcus Davies, Senior Trade Commissioner Debra Boyce, and Political Adviser Nissar Ahmed were also present at the meeting.
Referring to the upcoming national election of Bangladesh as an important milestone on the path to democracy, the Jamaat Ameer called for Canada's full cooperation and technical assistance to hold the election in a free, fair, and acceptable manner.
In addition, constructive discussions were held on establishing sustainable democracy in Bangladesh and ensuring the independent role of democratic institutions.
They expressed hope that bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Canada would be further strengthened in the future.
Jamaat Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Central Executive Council Member Mubarak Hossain, and Jamaat Ameer's Foreign Affairs Adviser Professor Dr Mahmudul Hasan, among others, were also present at the meeting.
