Jamaat ameer alleges President Shahabuddin 'concealed many matters' on 5 August
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has questioned recent remarks made by President Mohammed Shahabuddin regarding the events of 5 August 2024.
In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page today (24 February), Shafiqur Rahman alleged that the President had "concealed many matters" about the developments of that day, particularly concerning the resignation of the ousted fugitive prime minister.
He claimed that what the President had told political leaders present at the time, and what he later conveyed to the nation, does not match his current remarks.
"What he is saying now, he did not say any of it that day," the Jamaat ameer said.
He also questioned whether the President would reconcile "what millions of people heard that day, what he said then, and what he is saying now".
"The nation is not naive. Such conduct from the highest office of the state is unacceptable," he added.
The reaction follows a recent interview President Mohammad Shahabuddin gave to Bangladeshi daily Kaler Kantho at Bangabhaban on Friday night (20 February), where he spoke about various issues related to the interim government period and expressed certain grievances.
In the interview, the President said there had been attempts to remove him from office, but the move did not succeed as the BNP and the army did not support it.
