Jamaat accuses BNP of attacking hospitals, health centres over occupation, extortion
Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar accuses BNP activists of attacking hospitals and health centres and attempting to occupy property.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar has alleged that the country's law and order situation has "completely collapsed", accusing BNP activists of attacking hospitals and health centres and attempting to occupy property and extort money.
In a statement issued today (27 September), he condemned the vandalism at Islami Bank Specialised and General Hospital in Nayapaltan, the attack and demolition of Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur-1, and the attack and looting at content creator and July Uprising activist Salman Muqtadir's studio.
Porwar called for the immediate arrest of those responsible for the incidents.
He alleged that BNP activists, backed by a female MP, attacked, vandalised and looted the Radda MCH-FP Centre on Friday night (25 September) after tying up its security guards.
He said a signboard was also installed at the facility as part of an attempt to take control of the healthcare centre.
Describing the incident as an attempt to occupy a public-serving healthcare facility, Porwar called for those involved to be brought to justice.
He also alleged that BNP activists attacked Salman Muqtadir's studio at Newgrini Properties in the ECB area yesterday night (26 September), carrying machetes and axes, vandalising equipment and looting valuables.
Citing media reports, he said the attack was linked to a land dispute between two groups, with BNP activists allegedly targeting Muqtadir's studio in connection with the dispute.
Porwar further alleged that BNP activists attacked Islami Bank Specialised and General Hospital in Nayapaltan on Saturday afternoon and assaulted staff.
He claimed a group led by Jubo Dal and Swecchasebak Dal leaders Lyon and Farhad gathered outside the hospital, vandalised glass panels and CCTV cameras, and assaulted reception staff.
He urged authorities to identify and arrest those involved in the incidents without delay.
The Jamaat leader also questioned the administration's role in handling the incidents, saying its actions were becoming increasingly questionable and, in some cases, "mysterious", particularly in connection with the Radda incident.
He urged the authorities to take strict measures to ensure public safety and protect stability, as well as strengthen security at private businesses, hospitals and healthcare facilities.
Porwar said attacks on and attempts to occupy private hospitals and health centres were raising fresh concerns at a time when the government's health sector was struggling to provide basic healthcare services.
