Jamaat, 7 allied parties plan to join elections on consensus-based approach
A final, formal announcement would be made following a top-level meeting of the alliance, says Jamaat leader Hamidur Rahman
Jamaat-e-Islami and seven allied parties have signaled that they will participate in the upcoming national elections on a "consensus basis" approach, following internal discussions and ongoing talks with other anti-fascist groups aimed at forging broader unity.
"We are staging our movement together, and we have discussed going to the elections on a compromise basis strategy," Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad said at a press briefing this evening (19 November).
He added that a final, formal announcement would be made following a top-level meeting of the alliance.
Indicating that the coalition may soon widen, the Jamaat leader said discussions are under way to bring additional anti-fascist parties into the fold.
