Islami Andolan to withdraw candidates from Mamunul's Dhaka-13, Bagerhat-1 seats
The party will extend its support to Mamunul in both seats
Islami Andolan Bangladesh has decided not to field candidates in the Dhaka-13 and Bagerhat-1 constituencies where Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque is contesting in the upcoming national election.
Islami Andolan's Joint Secretary General and spokesperson Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman disclosed the decision in a statement this afternoon (19 January).
Ataur said Islami Andolan has decided to withdraw its candidates from the two constituencies as a mark of respect for Mamunul's sacrifice and contribution to Islamic politics.
The party will extend its support to Mamunul in both seats, he added.
Clarifying the party's broader political stance, Ataur said Islami Andolan is not considering joining hands with any other political party at this time.
"However, in constituencies where the party does not have its own candidates, it will support honest and competent contenders in line with its principles and ideals," he added.
