At a glance: Which BNP candidates will face top Jamaat leaders in upcoming polls
Here’s a list of BNP candidates who will contest against Jamaat’s heavyweight leaders, including its ameer and secretary general.
As the BNP announced candidates for 237 constituencies today (3 November), a major contest is shaping up against its former ally the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in 12 key seats.
Although Jamaat has not officially released its list, their candidates have been actively campaigning for months. Meanwhile, BNP has not finalised candidates for five out of the 12 key constituencies.
Here's a list of BNP candidates who will contest against Jamaat's heavyweight leaders, including its ameer and secretary general.
Dhaka-15: Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman will contest against BNP candidate Md Safiqul Islam Khan Milton. Relatively unknown in national politics, Milton is expected to face a tight battle.
Khulna-5: Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar, a former MP, will contest against BNP candidate Mohammad Ali Asgar. This seat has been known as a stronghold of both BNP and Jamaat in the past.
Cumilla-11: Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer Abdullah Mohammad Taher, a former MP, faces BNP candidate Kamrul Huda, a grassroots BNP leader and joint convener of Cumilla South District BNP.
Cox's Bazar-2: Jamaat leader Hamidur Rahman Azad, a former MP, is contesting in this seat. The BNP candidate is yet to be announced.
Sunamganj-2: Jamaat's Shishir Mohammad Monir, former secretary of Islami Chhatra Shibir, will contest. BNP candidate yet to be named.
Sirajganj-5: Jamaat's Rafiqul Islam Khan, a former MP and central committee member, faces BNP candidate Md Amirul Islam Khan, Rajshahi divisional co-organising secretary and a former central student leader.
Rangpur-2: Jamaat senior leader ATM Azhar, acquitted from a death sentence in May 2025, will contest against BNP candidate Mohammad Ali Ghosh, a former MP from Jatiyo Party who later joined BNP.
Pirojpur-1: Jamaat nominee Masud Saeedi, former upazila chairman and son of ex-MP Maulana Dewlar Hossain Saeedi will contest. BNP candidate not yet announced.
Pabna-1: Jamaat's Nazibur Rahman Momen, son of former Jamaat ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami, will contest. BNP has not yet announced a candidate.
Dhaka-14: Jamaat's candidate is Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, son of late Jamaat leader Mir Quasem Ali who was a victim of enforced disappearance for nearly eight years and freed in 2024. BNP's candidate is Sanjida Islam Tuli, whose brother was also a victim of enforced disappearance.
Chapainawabganj-3: Jamaat's Dhaka South Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul to contest against former MP Harunur Rashid of BNP.
Patuakhali-2: Jamaat's Shafiqul Islam Masud, Dhaka South general secretary and former student leader will contest. BNP yet to announce candidate.
