Freedom fighter, ex-MP Akhtaruzzaman joins Jamaat
He pledged to dedicate the remainder of his life to upholding Islamic values, protecting national interests, and defending the country’s independence and sovereignty
Former member of parliament and freedom fighter Major (retd) Akhtaruzzaman has formally joined Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
The joining ceremony was held at 9:00am today (13 December) at the party's central office in Dhaka, where he met Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman.
In the presence of the Jamaat chief, Major (retd) Akhtaruzzaman expressed his deep confidence and satisfaction in Jamaat's principles and ideology, patriotism, and its steadfast stance on safeguarding the country's independence and sovereignty. He later filled out the primary associate membership form and officially joined the party.
He pledged to dedicate the remainder of his life to upholding Islamic values, protecting national interests, and defending the country's independence and sovereignty. He also vowed to remain loyal to Jamaat-e-Islami's rules, ideology, organisational discipline and leadership.
Welcoming him into the party, Shafiqur warmly embraced Akhtaruzzaman and wished him a long and blessed life.
Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar and Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim were also present.
Major (retd) Akhtaruzzaman is a veteran politician, a freedom fighter of the 1971 Liberation War, and a prominent leader in various democratic movements.
Following independence, he remained actively involved in politics and social welfare activities.
A retired major of the Bangladesh Army, he was elected twice as a member of parliament from the Kishoreganj-2 constituency on a BNP ticket. He continues to play an active role in advocating for due recognition and dignity of freedom fighters.
