Fakhrul expresses gratitude to people, army for 'victory' in July Uprising
"We have been imprisoned, oppressed, and persecuted [during Hasina’s regime], but never bowed our heads," he said

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed special gratitude to the patriotic Bangladesh Army, alongside the people of the country, for its cooperation in achieving victory in the July Uprising.
"I sincerely express my gratitude to the people, political parties, the students, and the patriotic army. We achieved this victory because of their cooperation," he said while addressing a brief rally in front of the BNP central office in Nayapaltan today (6 August).
The event was held before the start of the "Victory Rally", which marked the first anniversary of the July Uprising and was attended by the leaders and activists of the party and its affiliated organisations.
"I thank our leader, Tarique Rahman, on behalf of everyone. He led us and showed us the path to liberation," Fakhrul added.
"We have continued our movement first under the leadership of Begum Khaleda Zia, and later, Tarique Rahman. We have been imprisoned, oppressed, and persecuted [during Hasina's regime], but never bowed our heads. We continued our fight and moved forward," he said.
During his speech, he also respectfully paid respect to the July Uprising martyrs and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Bangladesh yesterday (5 August) marked one year of the mass uprising that toppled the Awami League government from power in August last year, after a student-led anti-discrimination movement throughout July turned violent in the face of a government crackdown.
