EC urges Amjanatar Dal’s Tarek to end hunger strike, file appeal for party registration
The EC secretary said, “We have already conveyed everything necessary from our end through an official letter. They can now file an appeal if they wish and address the existing shortcomings.”
EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed has urged Amjanatar Dal's Tarek Rahman, who is on a hunger strike demanding party registration, to end the strike and appeal to the commission.
He made the remarks while briefing reporters at the Election Building in Agargaon today (9 November).
Referring to the need for a legal resolution, the EC secretary said, "We have already conveyed everything necessary from our end through an official letter. They can now file an appeal if they wish and address the existing shortcomings."
"Appeal, amendment, correction, or extension of time — these are established procedures. The commission will certainly take the matter into consideration. I sincerely urge him to end the hunger strike and move towards resolving the issue through legal means," he said.
He further mentioned that if Amjanatar Dal wishes to appeal, it should be submitted to the EC secretary.
Failing to secure registration this time, Tarek Rahman began a hunger strike in front of the Election Building's main gate in Agargaon on Tuesday (4 November) afternoon. He has been continuing the strike for 122 hours.
Regarding this, Tarek Rahman said, "I will continue my hunger strike. Continuing this strike is also, in a way, an appeal to the Election Commission."
