EC to hold dialogue with local election observers on 25 November
Ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election, the Election Commission (EC) will hold a dialogue with local election observer organisations on 25 November.
The meeting will take place in the conference room of the EC headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka, with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin in the chair.
Confirming the matter today (23 November) by Asadul Haque, assistant director of the EC's Public Relations Wing, said, "The EC is inviting 80 local election observer organisations to the dialogue. It will be held on 25 November, and will be conducted in two sessions – morning and afternoon."
Earlier on 6 November, the commission confirmed registration of 66 organisations as local election observers and identified 16 additional organisations as eligible for registration.
For these 16 organisations, any claims, objections or complaints must be submitted in writing to the EC by 27 November.
The EC first introduced the registration system for election observer organisations ahead of the 9th national election in 2008, when 138 organisations were registered, though only 75 eventually monitored the polls.
Participation was lower in subsequent elections: 35 out of 120 organisations observed the 2014 election; 81 out of 119 monitored the 2018 polls; and 80 out of 96 took part in observing the 2024 national election.
