Ducsu leaders demand apology from BNP’s Fazlur Rahman over ‘DU turned into madrasa’ remark
The Ducsu leaders said such remarks reflected hatred and a racist attitude towards students and were contrary to the spirit of post-July Bangladesh
Leaders of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) have condemned BNP Chairperson's adviser Advocate Fazlur Rahman for his remarks about the university students and demanded an unconditional apology.
In a statement signed by Ducsu General Secretary SM Farhad tonight (21 September), student leaders protested Fazlur Rahman's comments accusing the university of becoming a "Hathazari madrasa."
The Ducsu leaders said such remarks reflected hatred and a racist attitude towards students and were contrary to the spirit of post-July Bangladesh.
The statement stressed that Dhaka University, as a century-old institution, has long been a non-communal hub of free thought and a driving force behind the nation's democratic struggles.
It said derogatory political comments not only insult students but also undermine the university's rich history and traditions.
The central students' union requested Fazlur Rahman to refrain from making divisive or hateful remarks in the future.
The union reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the dignity of Dhaka University and standing against any statements that threaten the interests of its students.
