Ducsu election: Left alliance nominates Emi for VP, Meghmallar for GS

The alliance of left-leaning student organisations has announced its participation in the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) election, nominating Sheikh Tasnim Afroz Emi for vice president (VP) and Meghmallar Basu for general secretary (GS).
Emi, a former vice president of the Shamsunnahar Hall Students' Union, and Meghmallar, president of the Dhaka University unit of Bangladesh Students' Union, collected their nomination forms today (18 August).
The full panel is yet to be disclosed.
Before submitting their forms, alliance members marched together singing "Amra Korbo Joy."
Later, at a press conference, they presented a set of demands to ensure a fair and participatory election.
Among their demands are the publication of a list of individuals involved in student repression under the Awami League government, their expulsion from the university, cancellation of their candidacies, and the removal of "Blue Panel" teachers who allegedly supported student killings during the July Uprising from hall provost posts.
The alliance also called for clear directives on campaigning in university halls, suspension of examinations at least 15 days before polling, provision of additional transport for non-residential students on election day, and an adequate number of polling centres.
In addition, they urged the administration to take strong action against online rumours and disinformation, prevent misuse of the university's name for political propaganda, and prepare a comprehensive plan to address potential mob situations on campus.
