Tarique visits BNP central office after 17 years, hundreds gather to welcome him
Party insiders said the visit is part of his efforts to review ongoing political programmes and organisational matters.
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman reached the party's central office in Naya Paltan today (29 December) and addressed the hundreds of supporters who gathered in the area to welcome him.
This is Tarique's first visit to the Naya Paltan central office since his return to the country after 17 years in exile, generating heightened interest among party leaders and activists.
Earlier in the day, at around 3pm, Tarique Rahman left his residence in Gulshan Avenue for the BNP central office.
He arrived at the Nayapaltan office at around 4pm, where he was received with flowers by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and party Treasurer M Rashiduzzaman Millat.
Also present on the occasion were BNP chairperson's Adviser and freedom fighter Abdus Salam, Joint Secretary General Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel, central leaders of the party's affiliated and associate organisations, as well as officers and staff of the central office.
Party insiders said the visit is part of his efforts to review ongoing political programmes and organisational matters.
Meanwhile, security measures have been tightened in the Naya Paltan area in anticipation of his arrival. On-ground observations show that the Rapid Action Battalion's (RAB) dog squad is conducting sweeps in and around the central office.
Notably, following his return home after a long period in exile, Tarique worked from the BNP chairperson's political office in Gulshan for the first time yesterday (28 December).
