Following Saturday's massive political violence, the police on Sunday morning cordoned off the BNP's Nayapaltan central office with a crime scene yellow tape.

Amid the party's hartal, the collapsible gate of the BNP central office was also found locked and no opposition leaders or workers were seen coming to the office area till 1pm on Sunday.

According to police, they have marked the areas in front of the BNP office's main gate with crime scene tape that reads "Do not cross" to collect evidence from there for investigation.

No one will be able to enter the BNP office crossing the earmarked area until their evidence collection process is completed, police said.

Some members of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police were seen collecting evidence in the cordoned-off area around 10am amid the huge presence of police around the BNP office and its adjoining areas.

They were seen collecting ashes, and various objects lying in the area as evidence.

Later, Mizanur Rahman, the assistant superintendent of police for the Crime Scene Unit, told reporters that they had gathered ten different kinds of evidence.

He said they would send the evidence to the laboratory.

On Saturday, two people, including a constable, were killed and scores injured in violent clashes between BNP and AL-police centring the opposition party's rally at Nayapaltan.

Later, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced a day-long nationwide hartal for Sunday before suspending the rally.
