Constitutional amendment essential for lasting reform in Bangladesh: Samantha Sharmin
She calls for an end to the fascist system and the establishment of a new political settlement

Permanent change in Bangladesh is not possible without amending the constitution, National Citizen Party (NCP) Senior Joint Convener Samantha Sharmin said today (29 March).
Speaking at a roadside gathering in Bhola's Char Fashion Upazila, the NCP leader stated that the nation's hopes, aspirations, and struggles are deeply tied to the existing constitution, making its amendment crucial.
Samantha called for an end to the fascist system and the establishment of a new political settlement.
She criticised certain political groups for resisting constitutional change, asserting that Bangladesh's student population has taken a stand.
She reiterated that the current constitution is "anti-people" and must be rewritten.
She also stated that they aim to participate in elections through a Constituent Assembly.
Addressing skepticism about the Constituent Assembly elections, she argued that if Bangladesh could hold such elections in 1970 before modern technology, there is no reason why people cannot understand them today.
Sharmin also pledged that the NCP would expand its reach to grassroots communities, amplifying the voices of ordinary citizens.
