Chhatra Dal leader expelled over assaulting Sherpur agriculture officer
The disciplinary action comes after Upazila Agriculture Officer Shahriar Mursalin filed a case against Rahat last night
The central committee of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has expelled a key local leader in Serpur's Nokla Upazila following allegations that he assaulted the upazila agriculture officer and obstructed him from performing government duty.
The expulsion order was issued this morning (6 November) via a press release from the JCD central committee.
Rahat Hasan Kayum, the ex-member secretary of the Nokla Upazila Chhatra Dal unit, has been removed from all organisational posts, including his primary membership, for "specific charges of violating organisational discipline" related to the incident.
The disciplinary action comes after Upazila Agriculture Officer Shahriar Mursalin filed a case last night (5 November) against Rahat and his associate, Fazlul Haque, 32, for assault and obstruction of official duties.
A video of the incident has gone viral where Rahat, Fazlul Haque, and several others can reportedly be seen entering Mursalin's office at the Nokla Upazila Complex yesterday afternoon. They reportedly demanded information regarding the list for an agricultural incentive programme, specifically inquiring about the allocation given to various 'political leaders'.
The agricultural officer informed them that the allocations were reserved only for designated farmers, not political figures. Enraged by the response, the accused allegedly began verbally abusing and threatening the officer before proceeding to physically assaulting him.
Office staff rushed in upon hearing the commotion and rescued Mursalin, who was later admitted to the Upazila Health Complex.
After the incident, JCD President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir approved the expulsion decision today, instructing all party members to cease organisational relations with him immediately.
