BNP show-causes Khaleda’s Adviser Fazlur over controversial remarks on July Uprising
The notice states that Fazlur’s comments have sparked strong public reactions and are viewed by many as an attempt to tarnish the party’s reputation
The BNP has served a show-cause notice on Fazlur Rahman, a member of the party chairperson's Advisory Council, over his recent remarks regarding last year's July Uprising.
A reliable source at the BNP office confirmed the development to The Business Standard this evening (24 August). Later, after 7pm, the notice -- signed by the party's Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi -- was also shared by the BNP Media Cell on its Facebook page.
"You have been making 'indecent and misleading statements' regarding the historic July-August mass uprising and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives. Your remarks contradict the party's ideology and the spirit of the movement," read the notice.
It stated that Fazlur's comments have sparked strong public reactions and are viewed by many as an attempt to tarnish the party's reputation, while also hurting religious sentiments.
Fazlur has been asked to submit a written reply to the party's central office in Nayapaltan within 24 hours, explaining why organisational action should not be taken against him for his statements.
