BNP sets size limits for banners, festoons in election campaigns
The directive also states that posters will not be allowed in election campaigning.
Ahead of the upcoming national election, the BNP has set specific size limits for banners, billboards, festoons, handbills, leaflets and voter slips used in election campaigns.
The directives were issued on Sunday night (18 January) through a notice signed by Nazrul Islam Khan, chairman of the party's central election management committee.
According to the notice, full-scale election campaigning will begin from 22 January. Party leaders and candidates have been instructed to strictly follow all rules related to banners, billboards, festoons, handbills, leaflets, portraits and voter slips during the campaign period.
The maximum permitted sizes of campaign materials have been fixed as follows: banners – 10 feet by 4 feet; billboards – 16 feet by 9 feet; festoons – 18 inches by 24 inches; handbills/leaflets – 8.27 inches by 11.69 inches; portraits – 60 cm by 45 cm; and voter slips – 12 cm by 8 cm.
The directive also states that posters will not be allowed in election campaigning. Banners, festoons, handbills, leaflets and voter slips must be printed in black and white only. However, billboards and content used on social media may include coloured text and images.
In addition, apart from the candidate's electoral symbol and personal photograph, only the portrait of the current party chief may be used on banners, festoons, handbills and leaflets.
The notice further mentions that all campaign materials must clearly include the name of the printing institution, its address and the date of printing.
It also specifies that a candidate will not be allowed to use more than 20 billboards within a single constituency.
Moreover, the BNP has prohibited the use of drones, quadcopters or similar devices during election campaigning and on polling day.
