BNP committed to build Bangladesh into strong democratic nation: Salahuddin
Mosharraf urges the Election Commission to announce a specific date for the next election

The BNP is committed to build Bangladesh into a functional and strong democratic nation, the party's Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said today (6 August).
"Our strength will come from national unity against fascism, led by our acting chairman Tarique Rahman," he said while addressing BNP's victory rally in Nayapaltan this afternoon.
The BNP is holding the rally commemorating the anniversary of the July Uprising.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi said, "As per the directives of our leader Tarique Rahman, our month-long programme during July and August is being held in honour of the martyrs and their families."

Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas said, "The success [of the July uprising] is not a one-day or 36-day event — this is the result of 17 years of sustained movement. Even though the July Declaration omitted the name of our independence proclaimer, Ziaur Rahman, we accepted it in the interest of unity."
Standing Committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain urged the Election Commission to announce a specific date for the next election.
"If a date is not declared soon, fallen forces may attempt to delay or sabotage the process. We must stay alert," he said.
Marking the occasion, BNP leaders and activists from across the country — including members of affiliated organisations — had gathered near the Central Office of the party in Nayapaltan.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Muktijoddha Dal brought out a procession featuring scenes of Awami League leaders apologising in Central Jail and an exhibition portraying autocratic Sheikh Hasina.
