BNP could not stage protests in Bhola

BNP today could not hold its scheduled protest programmes in Bhola due to tight security measures.

The party on October 21 announced the programmes protesting the Bhola clash between local people and law enforcers that left four people killed.

The offices of BNP and its front organisations - Juba Dal and Chhatra Dal – in the district remained surrounded by the members of police, Rapid Action Battalion and Border Guard Bangladesh from Wednesday morning.

None of the BNP leaders and activists was seen on the streets, our correspondent reports from Bhola.

BNP's district President Golam Nobi Alamgir said, "We could not hold our protest programmes due to the tight security measures taken by the law enforcers."

Meanwhile, Muslim Oikya Parishad suspended its human chain programme, which was scheduled for Thursday (October, 24), said the group's Joint Secretary Maolana Mizanur Rahman.

"We talked to the deputy commissioner of Bhola about our six-point demand. He assured us of fulfilling most of our demands on behalf of the government," he added.

Deputy Inspector General Shafiqul Islam visited the spot Wednesday afternoon.

"Many cases were filed over the Bhola clash. Our investigation is underway," he said.
