BNP to carry out cleanliness drive instead of rallies to avoid public suffering
The party made the change to avoid public suffering

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has decided to cancel its planned grand rally in Dhaka to mark its 47th founding anniversary and will instead conduct a citywide campaign to clean clogged canals and drains.
The party made the change to avoid public suffering, said BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi while announcing the decision today (1 September).
"We have made some changes to the BNP's founding anniversary programmes," he told the media.
"Specifically, tomorrow's rally programme in Dhaka has been cancelled. Instead, the North and South Dhaka units of the BNP will conduct a campaign to clean all the canals and drains in their respective areas," he said.
Rizvi explained the reasoning behind the sudden change.
"A rally causes the entire city to be paralysed, which causes immense suffering to the people. Considering this, we have cancelled tomorrow's rally programme," he said.
