BNP to back ‘Yes’ vote in referendum: Mahdi Amin
Mahdi Amin made the remarks today (21 January) while responding to questions from journalists at a press briefing at the BNP office in Gulshan.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will take a position in favour of a 'Yes' vote in the referendum on the implementation of the July National Charter, said Mahdi Amin, political adviser to Tarique Rahman and spokesperson of the party's election steering committee.
"Our parliamentary candidates were told when they came to Dhaka that during election campaigning, we will take a position in favour of 'Yes' in the referendum," he said.
Mahdi Amin made the remarks today (21 January) while responding to questions from journalists at a press briefing at the BNP office in Gulshan.
Stating that restructuring the state system was the core aspiration of the mass uprising, he said BNP would support the 'Yes' vote in the referendum based on the party's note of dissent submitted to the National Consensus Commission and its position outlined in the July Charter.
Mahdi Amin said issues where there are differences of opinion or alternative approaches would be discussed in parliament.
"Overall, we have informed everyone in the party that our position in the referendum will be in favour of 'Yes'," he added.
Responding to a question about BNP's election manifesto, he said work on the manifesto is ongoing and that the party has been preparing its plans over a long period.
"BNP was the first to present specific plans. We have issued eight leaflets. Before that, we presented the 31-point plan for restructuring the state, earlier the 27-party framework, and before that Mission 2030. So we have been working on these plans for a long time," he said.
He added that several teams are working on the election manifesto and that it would be unveiled at an appropriate time.
