BNP announces nationwide rallies from 11 Feb over price hikes, worsening law and order
Interim govt cannot be allowed to fail, says Rizvi

The BNP has announced a series of rallies covering all 64 districts, demanding effective measures to curb the hike in prices of daily essentials, the slide in law and order, and pressing for an electoral roadmap.
The BNP will hold rallies in all districts, beginning on 11 February and concluding before Ramadan, BNP Senior Joint General Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said at a press conference at the party's central office in Dhaka today (8 February), reports UNB.
Subsequently, similar gatherings will be held in metropolitan and divisional headquarters, he said.
Rizvi added that members of the BNP's National Standing Committee and senior leaders will attend the rallies as guests.
The schedule detailing which leaders will be present in specific districts will be announced later, he noted.
Meanwhile, the BNP has decided to meet Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus as soon as possible to express its concerns and stance regarding the recent incidents of vandalism, including those at Dhanmondi 32 and other locations across the country.
The decision was made at an emergency meeting of the party's standing committee, held at the BNP chairperson's Gulshan office on Friday, according to media reports.
Earlier today, Rizvi said the interim government led by Yunus cannot be allowed to fail in carrying out its duties.
The fear of being disappeared for criticising the government is now gone, he said, adding, "We will criticise [the government] for success. But we will not allow the Muhammad Yunus-led government to fail."
He made the remarks while addressing the unveiling ceremony of "Droher Graffiti", a book on the mass uprising of 2024, at the National Press Club.
"The environment for democracy to take root has been created in the country. India is struggling to accept this. The way Indian media are talking and taking Sheikh Hasina's side cannot be the language of a democratic country," Rizvi said.
"A counter-revolution is lurking in the corner. We cannot let that happen. We must stay united to implement the expectations of the revolution and democracy," he added.
