Banning Awami League requires a process: BNP Leader Annie
We cannot just declare the Awami League banned overnight. The same was said about Jamaat-e-Islami, but was it effectively banned? he says

Banning the Awami League must go through a proper process, BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie said today (21 March).
"We cannot just declare the Awami League banned overnight. The same was said about Jamaat-e-Islami, but was it effectively banned?" he said while addressing a meeting and Iftar event in Lakshmipur.
The BNP leader emphasised that instead of an outright ban, the Awami League should be held accountable for its alleged crimes, including enforced disappearances, oppression and corruption.
"If we can ensure the swift prosecution of Sheikh Hasina and her associates, including those responsible for corruption and misrule at various levels then Awami League would automatically become obsolete," he said.
Annie further suggested that discussions should take place under the National Consensus Commission to decide the future course of action. "Once justice is served, and if a new parliament is formed, we can decide on the necessary legal and political measures, including the issue of banning the Awami League," he added.
Annie stressed the need for immediate elections to restore stability in the country.
