Banned BCL holds flash procession in front of Ctg police commissioner’s office
Around 20 to 25 people gathered at the MM Ali Road intersection before marching with a banner that read “Sheikh Hasina will return, victory will come, says an eyewitness
A group of leaders and activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of banned Awami League, staged a sudden procession in Chattogram this morning, defying restrictions on political activities.
Police claimed to have detained three people in this connection.
The flash procession began around 10:30am on CDA Avenue under Khulshi Police Station, right in front of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) commissioner's office and adjacent to the Dampara police lines.
An eyewitness said around 20 to 25 people gathered at the MM Ali Road intersection before marching with a banner that read "Sheikh Hasina will return, victory will come," carrying the names of Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League on it.
As the march crossed the CMP commissioner's office and approached the Dampara bus stand, the group dispersed upon spotting a police vehicle.
Videos circulating on Facebook show the participants chanting slogans while carrying the banner.
Confirming the matter, Additional Deputy Commissioner (PR and Media) of CPM Srima Chakma told The Business Standard that the procession took place in front of Yunusco City Center under Kulshi Police Station in the morning.
"Three people have been detained in this connection and police are now verifying their involvement," she added.
