BAF plane crash: Consensus Commission postpones session with parties, mourns victims

The National Consensus Commission (NCC) has postponed its second round of talks with political parties yesterday following the deadly Bangladesh Air Force jet crash at Milestone School and College in the capital's Uttara.
The commission, as well as the participating parties expressed profound shock at the deaths reported in the crash, and observed a one-minute silence.
"We pray for the salvation of the departed souls, and express solidarity with the bereaved families," NCC Vice President, Prof Ali Riaz said.
He also urged all relevant authorities to take necessary steps to ensure proper treatment of those sustained burns in the crash.
Calling for national unity, Ali Riaz said, "We appeal to all political parties and citizens to come forward and support the victims and their families."
Besides, representatives from several political parties, including the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, NCP, Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Nizam-e-Islam, have expressed deep sorrow over the tragic plane crash.
Salahuddin Ahmed, a standing committee member of the BNP, said, "We consider those who lost their lives in the crash as martyrs."
Salahuddin urged all leaders and activists of the party to come forward and support the victims.
Jamaat's Assistant Secretary General Rafiqul Islam Khan said, "We pray for the souls of the deceased and extend our heartfelt condolences to their families."
NCP's Senior Joint Convener Ariful Islam Adib said It is the government's responsibility to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured and provide due support to the families of the deceased.
He said the NCP's Leaders and activists are working to install a help desk in Uttara to aid those affected.
The National Consensus Commission is set to resume the 2nd round talks today.
