Attempts being made to influence interim government: BNP leader Nazrul
“A country is facing social, economic, and political instability. There is no alternative to a political government to address and resolve these issues. The interim government understands this, he says

BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan has alleged that efforts are being made to influence the interim government during a critical time for the country.
"A country is facing social, economic, and political instability. There is no alternative to a political government to address and resolve these issues. The interim government understands this," he said while speaking at a discussion organised by the Bangladesh Labour Party at the National Press Club today (16 May).
Nazrul Islam reiterated BNP's support for comprehensive reforms but said the process must be inclusive.
"BNP is in favour of complete reforms. However, reforms are not something that can be completed at once. It must be done through a process involving the views of all stakeholders," he said.
Noting that several political parties, including BNP, had already proposed reform measures, he said, "If a consensus can be reached by June or July, then what is the obstacle to holding elections by December?"
Questioning the delay in holding elections, he asked, "Is the election being postponed to create an opportunity for someone?"
Referring to the ongoing political situation, Nazrul Islam said, "People across Bangladesh have been subjected to oppression under fascism. Political parties have long been united on a single-point demand. This mass uprising is the outcome of BNP's sustained struggle."
He also cautioned against further delays in the electoral process, saying, "If someone needs time to organise or gather allies, the people's fundamental right to vote should not be postponed for that reason."
