Army chief checks on Jamaat Ameer’s health over phone call
In a Facebook post today (20 July), Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman said the army chief assured full support for his treatment, if needed.

General Waker-Uz-Zaman, chief of army staff of the Bangladesh Army, today (20 July) made a phone call to Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman to inquire about his health after learning of his illness.
In a Facebook post today (20 July), Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman said the army chief assured full support for his treatment, if needed.
The post added that the Jamaat ameer extends his heartfelt thanks and gratitude to General Waker-Uz-Zaman.
The development comes after he collapsed mid-speech during the party's national rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital yesterday (19 July).
Party leaders rushed to his aid and helped him back on his feet. Despite the health scare, Shafiqur reassured the crowd and resumed his speech. However, he collapsed again shortly afterward.
Following a brief recovery, he continued delivering his address from a seated position.
