Abdul Awal Mintoo owns assets worth Tk507 crore, annual income Tk1.5 crore

BNP Vice-Chairman and former FBCCI President Abdul Awal Mintoo has submitted his nomination papers to contest the 13th National Parliamentary Election from the Feni-3 constituency with the BNP's paddy-sheaf symbol.

According to the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission, he declared total movable and immovable assets worth Tk507.80 crore — including Tk333.09 crore in immovable assets and Tk174.70 crore in movable assets.

The affidavit shows that Mintoo has no loans in his own name. However, he reported liabilities totalling Tk294 crore under different companies associated with him.

For the last fiscal year, he reported domestic annual income of Tk1.50 crore. The affidavit states he has no income from abroad.

It also mentions that although he previously held United States citizenship, he formally renounced it on 9 December.

Information from his 2025–26 income tax return shows declared assets of Tk116.90 crore and an income of Tk1.12 crore in that year, against which he paid Tk39.32 lakh in income tax.

In the affidavit, Mintoo listed his wife, Nasrin Fatema Awal, as a businessperson and declared her total assets at Tk99.24 crore — including Tk24.66 crore in immovable assets and Tk74.57 crore in movable assets.

Her 2025–26 tax return reflects assets of Tk14.78 crore and income of Tk1.63 crore, for which she paid Tk28.73 lakh in taxes.

Regarding jewellery and valuables made of gold and other precious metals and stones, the IT-10B declaration records assets worth Tk2 lakh in his name and Tk48.04 lakh in his wife's name.

Mintoo stated in the affidavit that he holds a postgraduate degree. He also noted that one case is currently pending against him with Dhanmondi Police Station, while he was previously accused in 26 cases — all of which have since been disposed of and he was acquitted.
